Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine>What can you expect from a TCM session?

First Session

The first session will usually last between one hour and 1 ½ hours. The practitioner will be using four examinations to make a diagnosis.

  • The practitioner will take your pulses at both wrists.
  • The practitioner will conduct a tongue examination. You will be asked to look at your own tongue in a handheld mirror while the practitioner explains what the different aspects of your tongue mean.
  • You will be asked to fill out a series of health/lifestyle questions.
  • Finally, what are your chief complaints- what are the two things that you want to change the most??

Together we will discuss what the diagnosis is. Most importantly- we will discuss why a particular disharmony occurred and why it led to the symptoms that you are having.

A treatment plan will be offered which may include any of the following- auricular therapy (ear acupuncture), acupressure, massage, food therapy, herbs, simple Tai Qi exercises or stress reduction strategies. This plan will involve subsequent follow-up visits. See pricing page for details.

Follow-Up Sessions

These sessions are usually spaced either at one or two week intervals. They usually last a ½ hour long, and are used to monitor your progress. Any person that is using just food therapy for restoring harmony should be aware that it is usually a longer process, and may not see results as fast as someone using a combination of herbs and food therapy. However, the goal of food therapy is to set up changes in lifestyle habits for your whole life!! Keep with the program and you will see results!
