Personalized Weight Management

Personalized Weight Management> What are the key components of a Weight Management Plan?

No matter which approach is correct for any one individual, there are certain basic key components that must be part of any lifestyle change program for better health.

1 - Lifestyle
Food records must be kept in the beginning to establish triggers for overeating.
High-risk situations that lead to unhealthy eating patterns must be identified
One must learn to establish the mind/body connection of eating and learn to
separate eating from other activities. (i.e. eating while working, watching TV, etc)

2- Exercise
Exercise is necessary for weight control. It doesn't have to be high impact or
high intensity, but some form of activity must be done on a consistent basis.
Reasonable activities goals must be established
Develop a plan for ways to integrate activities into daily life

3 - Attitudes
Must be ready to change for your own benefit, not for someone else
Be ready to make small changes at a time - that can fit into your lifestyle
Remember, this is a Gift for a Lifetime - for a Lifetime, we are encouraging
healthy eating habits for a lifetime, not just for a one time weight loss!

4 - Relationships
Identify social supports for your changes. Enlist those that will provide healthy support, and develop strategies to avoid those that will be unhealthy.
Identify support activities that reinforce your style (i.e. group setting, individual
counseling, etc.)

5 - Nutrition
Identify which strategy is best for your particular health and weight goals, yet fits into your lifestyle. Remember, not everyone has the same health risks or weight goals, so any one strategy is not right for everyone!!!
